“When I was younger, my mom would make cut-out sugar cookies at Christmas time using her special Christmas cookie cutters. It was such a treat! We would make icing with powdered sugar and milk and use toothpicks for the more intricate parts (we didn’t know about squeeze bottles when I was a child!). I think about Mom whenever I see the Joy of Cooking cookbook or a rolling pin.
One of my favorite parts about cooking, baking, and using various kitchen tools is the way that it can be passed down generation to generation, from friend to friend, and it never fails to bring us all together and allows those who are no longer with us to live on through each time we create the recipe."
